Meet the dentist behind Clear Path Dentistry, proudly serving the same South Amboy community he calls home.
Dr. Yazan Alkhawam, known to many of his patients as Dr. Yaz, earned a Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology and Neuroscience from Rutgers University. He spent several years afterward working in emergency departments across the tri-state area, an experience that first sparked his interest in dentistry. He went on to earn his DDS from New York University College of Dentistry, becoming the first dentist in his family, and completed his General Practice Residency at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, where he built a strong foundation in periodontics, oral surgery, endodontics, and esthetic and restorative dentistry.
Dr. Yaz grew up in Kearny, New Jersey, and now lives in South Amboy with his wife and 3 children, just two blocks from his practice. That is not a coincidence. He wanted his office to sit exactly where his patients already are, in the community he calls home. For him, Clear Path Dentistry is more than a dental practice, it’s an opportunity to care for his neighbors and be part of the community his family calls home.
Dr. Yaz built his entire approach to patient care around one idea. You are the leader, and he is the follower. That means every treatment plan starts with listening, not lecturing, and moves at whatever pace you’re comfortable with.
Dr. Yaz’s residency gave him a broad clinical foundation across periodontics, oral surgery, endodontics, and restorative dentistry, and he has since added advanced Invisalign training, making him one of the only Invisalign providers in the South Amboy area. He does not treat teeth in isolation. If a patient’s teeth are wearing down from grinding, he wants to understand why the grinding is happening in the first place, so the plan actually solves the problem instead of covering it up.
Dr. Yaz is not commuting from somewhere else to treat patients and leave. He is raising his own family right here in South Amboy, and that personal stake shapes how he shows up for every patient who walks through the door.
Outside the practice, Dr. Yaz keeps things pretty grounded. He picked up a love of cooking from his father, a chef, and he plays soccer at a competitive level in his free time. He describes one of his favorite parts of dentistry as building a trustworthy relationship with a patient who has dental phobia, exceeding their expectations, and creating an environment that is safe enough and fun enough that they actually want to come back.
